Automating Water Pump with Sensors and Microcontrollers: A Cost-Effective Solution

Water and energy are two critical issues in the global sustainable development of this new century. The proposed design is a very simple implementation with low cost, which automated the water pump control via Arduino Uno and sensors like pressure or level sensors interfaced using relays. Most of the traditional ways of pumping water require you to manually operate them, and hence, some resources can also get wasted. Our objective is to reduce human involvement by automating the process and optimizing water usage while saving energy. This system uses water level sensors to continuously measure the storage tank of a maximum four cylinders. The sensor data is processed by an Arduino Uno, which turns on or off the water pump via a relay using predefined thresholds of water level. It ensures that only when the pump is required does it get into work mode, thus reducing unwanted energy use and water overflow or shortfall. Materials used in the system are an Arduino Uno that is cheap and easy to use, a water level sensor for detecting water levels accurately, and pump control using a relay. Its components are meant to be easily integrated, leveling the playing field between residential water tanks and agricultural irrigation systems.
