Configuration of Multicast Routing and IEEE 802.1CB in Time-Sensitive Networking for Software-Defined Vehicles

Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) is expected to become the backbone of automotive networks due to its high bandwidth, low bounded latency, low jitter, and high reliability. With the acceleration of automotive software update iterations and the changing quality of service (QoS) requirements of applications, TSN needs to support automatic configuration to maximize the flexibility and scalability of Software-Defined Vehicles (SDV) and Over-The-Air (OTA) updates. Previous studies have focused on the automatic configuration for IEEE 802.1AS and IEEE 802.1Qbv. This paper focuses on the automatic configuration of multicast routing and IEEE 802.1CB. We developed an automatic configuration architecture based on IEEE 802.1Qcc. Then, a zone-oriented electrical/electronic architecture (EEA) was built using an in-vehicle SoC and four in-vehicle TSN switches for validation. The results show that multicast routing can be automatically configured to reduce bandwidth waste; IEEE 802.1CB can be automatically configured to ensure reliability, i.e., messages can still be transmitted normally in case of a link failure.
