Drag Reduction System & Rear Wing Support Structure

The Drag Reduction System (DRS) for a Formula Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) electric race car, including its rear wing mounting system. The system incorporates a servo-actuated mechanism controlled by driver input and brake pedal sensing, allowing for reduced drag during overtaking maneuvers. The mounting structure is designed to withstand 200N of force with less than 10mm deflection while maintaining lightweight characteristics. The results demonstrated a 65% reduction in drag force when the DRS is activated, from 186.1N to 64.3N. The implemented system successfully meets Formula SAE regulations while providing aerodynamic advantages during racing conditions.
