Key Elements in Stochastic Hosting Capacity Assessment Frameworks: A Review

With the increased integration of new technologies in modern power systems, various sources of network uncertainty are introduced that must be considered to inform power systems planning and operations. Stochastic hosting capacity frameworks are used to determine the maximum installable capacity of a technology in a network while considering network uncertainties. In this paper, key elements influencing the efficacy of stochastic hosting capacity assessments are examined with a particular focus on the consideration of network uncertainties and grid impact analyses. This review acts as a guide for the development of robust stochastic hosting capacity assessment frameworks, enabling risk-aware decision-making regarding the integration and utilization of technologies in modern power systems while ensuring that grid adequacy is maintained.
