Research Trends of Conducted EMI Issues on Ship Applications

The increase in onboard electronic equipment in modern ship power systems has heightened concerns about electromagnetic interference (EMI) and its impact on power quality. This study systematically reviews scientific publications to analyze the current research trends and knowledge in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and conducted EMI issues in ship applications. It evaluates 1019 manuscripts from the Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) databases, covering the period from 2000 to 2023. The findings reveal an annual growth rate of 7.17% in the literature on this topic, with “harmonic” being the most frequently discussed term. Over the past five years, research has shifted focus from conducted EMI in large systems, such as propulsion systems, to more general nonlinear loads, such as switching-based commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) equipment. This shift correlates with the increasing use of nonlinear loads and switching-based equipment on ships. The study's results provide a foundation for future research and can guide regulatory bodies in enhancing existing EMC standards.
