Armour Conferences on Radio Interference Reduction – 1954-1964: The Fifth Year - 1959

The “Armour Conferences” were a series of Radio Interference Conferences held in the Chicago, Illinois area from 1954 to 1964. In the beginning, they were sponsored by the United States Military Services and organized by the Armour Research Foundation. The Armour Research Foundation was formed in 1936 as a spin-off from the Armour Institute of Technology. The Armour Institute of Technology was established in 1893 with a gift of one million dollars from Philip Danforth Armour. Mr. Armour was one of the wealthiest men in Chicago due to his ownership of Armour and Company, a meatpacking company founded in 1863. Exactly one hundred years later, in 1963, the Armour Research Foundation changed its name to the Illinois Institute of Technology Research Institute (IITRI), but it remained an independent not-for-profit research organization
