Smart Payment System for Supermarkets Based on Facial Recognition Technology and Artificial Intelligence

This research develops a smart payment system for supermarkets, integrating item and facial recognition with customer emotion analysis, gender detection, and age estimation to optimize the shopping experience by exploiting the multi-task cascaded convolutional neural network (MTCNN), FaceNet, and VGG-Face models. On our creatively designed website platform, store owners can easily generate a unique QR code for each product with just a few simple steps. During the payment process, customers place the products on the counter, and immediately, the camera will capture the image so that our website can recognize the QR code, automatically generating a list of products along with their corresponding prices. An invoice will be generated, and the buyer can proceed with the payment as instructed. To complete the payment, customers must confirm their identity through facial recognition, helping the system accurately identify the buyer. Not stopping there, the system can also sense the user's emotions, thereby evaluating their shopping experience to some extent. The system improves operational efficiency, allows effective management, analyzes customer visit frequency, and provides personalized services. By incorporating AI technologies, the system brings significant benefits to improving supermarket operations.
