Designing of U-Slotted Oval Shaped Metasurface for Gain Enhancement in 5G Band

Metasurfaces are engineered structures designed to modify the optical properties of materials, such as amplitude, polarization, and refractive index. They also possess the unique ability to control and customize the two fundamental components of electromagnetic waves—the electric and magnetic fields. This paper presents a novel metasurface design for gain enhancement in the 5G frequency band, along with an antenna operating in the same band. The proposed structure consists of U-slotted, oval-shaped unit cells arranged in a 10 × 10 configuration, forming a metasurface with overall dimensions of 60 mm × 60 mm. Each unit cell measures 4.4 mm × 2 mm. The performance of both the unit cell and the metasurface is analyzed in the 25–28 GHz frequency range by evaluating current distribution, transmission, and reflection coefficients.
