Analysis of Capacity Utilization Factor of Decentralized Solar Generators: A Case Study

This study analyzes the Capacity Utilization Factor (CUF) of solar power plants under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme in four districts of Madhya Pradesh, India: Tikamgarh, Panna, Sagar, and Damoh. The analysis reveals significant CUF variations across districts, with some plants exhibiting consistently low performance. Factors influencing CUF include solar irradiance, equipment efficiency, grid connectivity, and maintenance practices. Seasonal variations, particularly during winter months with reduced solar radiation, significantly impacted CUF in all regions. Key recommendations to improve CUF include enhancing post-installation support, optimizing plant design and maintenance, promoting grid connectivity and reliability, and leveraging technology for real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance. This study emphasizes the critical role of CUF analysis in assessing the performance of KUSUM solar plants. It provides valuable insights for optimizing the scheme's effectiveness and ensuring the long-term viability of these projects for farmers.
