Precision Navigation: Dual Band GPS Receiver with Phased Array Technology and Directional Antenna

The increasing reliance on GPS for both military and civilian applications has emphasized the need for enhanced interference rejection and signal accuracy, particularly in environments with high levels of noise and jamming. This paper presents the design and simulation of a dual-band GPS receiver utilizing phased array technology and a directional antenna for precision navigation. The system is designed to dynamically steer beams toward GPS satellites while pointing nulls at interference sources. The phased array antenna operates at the L1 (1.5754 GHz) and L2 (1.2276 GHz) GPS frequencies and uses beamforming techniques to enhance signal reception. The system's performance is evaluated using 100 randomly generated data frames under various noise conditions, demonstrating a robust signal recovery with a low bit error rate (BER) of 0.004 at an SNR of −10 dB. Trilateration is used to calculate the GPS receiver's position, showing minor discrepancies compared to ground truth values due to clock precision limits in MATLAB. The results indicate that the proposed receiver design can significantly improve navigation accuracy and resilience against jamming. Future work will focus on hardware implementation and real-world testing to validate the system's performance in dynamic environments.
