A Systematic Approach to Mitigate Power Consumption Challenges in Vehicle Key Systems Using Modern Technology

Modern vehicle key systems are evolving to incorporate advanced wireless technologies that optimize customer comfort, security, and safety. Integrating these advancements will cause significant challenges to non-rechargeable battery available in vehicle key fob. This paper proposes a systematic approach by enhancing customer comfort using the modern Type-C charging method with rechargeable batteries. A prototype design of a charging circuit is proposed for integrating a Type-C charging method into the vehicle key charging system. This leverages the advantages of Type-C USB, including its reversible connector design with its ability to deliver power in both directions, and with support for USB Power Delivery (PD) for faster charging. This provides the standard output capability of a Type-C charger for recharging the key fob battery conveniently and efficiently. The designed prototype is being tested to ensure universal compatibility with various types of Type-C chargers, further enhancing user experience. Furthermore, the paper discusses some of the modern wireless technologies aimed at vehicle key systems with their significant challenges and solution.
