A New and Practical Iron Loss Separation Model for Laminated Iron Cores in Electrical Equipment

To develop a simple and efficient technique for extracting the three loss components in laminated iron cores and then to enable the accurate prediction of iron loss, a new loss separation model is presented. The restrictive conditions, the measurement errors and the stability of solutions to systems of linear equations are all taken into consideration in this model. By examining the iron losses in three single-phase transformer models, where the iron cores were made of the cobalt-based amorphous ribbons, the grain oriented (GO) and non-oriented (NO) SiFe sheets, respectively, the proposed iron loss separation approach is verified by the comparison of the calculated data with those obtained by the experimental method under various excitation conditions. Two similar loss separation techniques, two-frequency and three-frequency methods, are investigated as well in this work and their limitations and drawbacks are pointed out and fully discussed. Furthermore, a preliminary study of the iron loss prediction using the loss coefficients acquired with the proposed model is conducted.
