Image Processing Microvascular Structures in Python

Microvascular structural imaging is a developing technology in the field of radiology and vascular research. Most existing technologies fail to fully automate image processing of microvascular networks. The purpose of this research paper is to develop a more precise, automatic software that can process and geometrically model images of microvascular networks. Through a series of denoising, skeletonizing, and contouring functions, the program assesses the image, detects its individual vessels, and calculates its centerlines. The program additionally allows the user to interactively plot points on a microvascular image and manually generate curved lines along individual vessels, which are then rendered into 3D models of microvascular networks. This microvascular structural imaging technology demonstrates considerable potential in improving computational fluid dynamics simulations, enhancing blood perfusion simulations, and promoting overall microvascular health and research.
