Research on accurate loss calculation of wind power transformer under DC bias magnetization

The global shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy is establishing offshore wind power as a key source of sustainable energy. Transformers play a crucial role in connecting offshore wind power to the power grid, thereby ensuring the stability and security of the power grid. However, fluctuations in wind speeds and uneven load distributions can increase the DC bias effect in transformers, which leads to core losses, overheating, and insulation aging. Existing methods for analyzing the effects of DC bias, such as finite element analysis and the Steinmetz loss formula, have notable limitations regarding computational complexity and applicability, particularly in non-sinusoidal conditions. This paper presents an enhanced approach that incorporates a DC bias correction factor into the traditional Steinmetz model, improving both calculation accuracy and efficiency. The proposed model offers a theoretical foundation for optimizing transformer design and calculating hotspot temperatures.
