S-/K-/Ka-Band Shared-Aperture Antenna with Polarization Diversity for System Integration of Terrestrial and Satellite Mobile Communications

A tri-band shared-aperture antenna featuring linear polarization at S band and dual circular polarization at K and Ka bands is presented in this letter. A multifunctional metasurface, which can be simultaneously used as the radiator of a metasurface antenna at S band and the partially reflective surface (PRS) at both K and Ka bands, is firstly designed and analyzed. Then, dual dipoles and dual substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) slot arrays are adopted as the radiation sources at these bands. The coplanar dual SIW slot arrays are fed by dual printed ridge gap waveguide (PRGW)-based sequentially rotated feeding networks (SRFNs). The metasurface, dipoles and slot arrays are finally integrated in stacked manner. The final shared-aperture antenna exhibits the linearly-polarized (LP) radiation with its peak gain of 8.4 dBi from 2.95 to 3.8 GHz and the high-gain circularly-polarized (CP) radiation (right-hand CP, 16.4 dBi, 19.2∼20.6 GHz/left-hand CP, 16.5 dBi, 28.3∼30.2 GHz) at millimeter-wave band.
