Defecation Prediction System Using & A Mathematical Model of Bowel Sounds

Defecation is essential to high QOL since defecation assistance damages a person's dignity and increases care-givers' labor. The purpose of this study is to develop a wearable defecation-warning system to help people to notice defecation in advance. In our previous work, we confirmed that bowel sounds have information of defecation by classifying the sounds before/after defecation, however, its performance is not enough to develop a warning system. To improve the performance, in this paper, we made a mathematical model of bowel sounds and developed a classifier based on features based on the model. The classifier showed a good performance, implying the validity of our bowel sound model.
