Mobile Health Diagnostics for Accommodative Dysfunction: Leveraging Handheld Device Technology for Near Point of Convergence Testing

Accommodative dysfunction is a common visual disorder affecting the eye's ability to focus on near objects, leading to challenges in daily activities. Traditional diagnostic methods require specialized equipment and professional intervention, often inaccessible in remote or underserved areas, leading to delays in diagnosis and management. This study aims to develop a portable diagnostic tool using advanced embedded systems for Near Point of Convergence (NPC) testing, providing accessible solutions for accommodative dysfunction. The project employed the Agile methodology, which emphasizes flexibility, iterative development, and continuous improvement based on user feedback. A Quantitative research design was used, from 150 participants to assess the application's effectiveness. The application demonstrated a diagnostic accuracy of 92 %, with a sensitivity of 90% and specificity of 94^%, showing a strong correlation with conventional clinical methods $(\mathrm{r}=0.87,\ \mathrm{p} < 0.01)$. The findings highlight the potential of this portable diagnostic tool in improving access to eye care, particularly in underserved regions. By enabling early detection and management, this technology has the potential to significantly enhance global eye health outcomes. The integration of such advanced diagnostic tools into routine practice can democratize access to vision care, alleviate the burden on healthcare systems, and improve the quality of life for those affected by accommodative dysfunction.
