Optimizing Grid Resilience and Sustainability with Renewable Energy and Battery Energy Storage Systems.

The global energy landscape is undergoing a significant transformation, driven by increasing concerns over climate change and the depletion of fossil fuel resources. The integration of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, into the existing grid offers a promising solution to address these challenges. However, the intermittent nature of these sources poses significant challenges to grid stability and reliability. Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) can mitigate these issues by storing excess energy during periods of high generation and releasing it during periods of low generation or high demand. This paper explores the potential of integrating solar, wind, and BESS technologies into the existing grid to enhance its resilience and sustainability. By optimizing the deployment and operation of these technologies, we can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the impacts of climate change. The paper will delve into various aspects, including power conditioning models for the Solar PV subsystem, Wind subsystem, and BESS, with Electric Vehicle (EV) as load connected to the grid. The model is designed and simulated in MATLAB Simulink and focuses on creating a sustainable grid to power electric vehicles. Simulation results demonstrate that the integration of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and BESS significantly enhances grid resilience and sustainability. The system effectively maintains a constant 48 V DC link voltage under various operating conditions, including fluctuating renewable energy generation and varying EV charging demands, ensuring reliable power delivery to the grid. By effectively leveraging renewable energy and BESS technologies, we can build a more sustainable, resilient, and environmentally friendly energy future.
