Exploring Privacy Challenges: A Survey of Issues, Research Gaps, and Strategies for Protection

In the digital age, the interplay between personal data, privacy, and security has become increasingly complex. This paper explores the critical issues surrounding cyber-attacks, scams, and privacy breaches that have surged in recent years. It delves into the role of data brokers-entities that collect, analyze, and sell personal information-and their significant impact on individual privacy. In this paper, a comprehensive literature survey was carried to identify existing privacy protection frameworks and tools. The research in this paper uncovers several gaps, including the diverse demographic responses to privacy concerns, the necessity for user education and training, and the importance of summarizing privacy policies for better comprehension, adhering to the privacy regulations and their compliance, etc. Finally, this paper proposes research guidelines/strategies aimed at addressing these gaps, emphasizing the need for a multi-faceted approach to enhance privacy protection in the evolving landscape of cyber threats.
