Revolutionizing Automotive Electronics: The Transformative Impact of AI and Machine Learning in Manufacturing

In the Electronic product manufacturing industry, a product undergoes various stages of assembly, testing and final functional check. At various stages of manufacturing, there are important checks or tests deployed on the production line, like AOI and ICT, which are primarily checking for solder connections, dry solder, polarity of components, component values and general coverage of components mounted on the PCB. However, there persists a gap when a rework takes place or even if it is verified as pass by the AOI and ICT stage, there is no assurance on the field failure aspect or how long it will sustain and function on the field without any problem. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to highlight the potential application for AI-ML technology in the manufacturing field, wherein various aspects of production, electronic component placement and necessary elements shall be analyzed as a contributing set to predict the time to failure of the entire product, redirecting to the coverage areas in the AOI and ICT machine.
