Numerical Simulation of Temperature-Induced Deformation on Substation Slope and Equipment in Plateau Areas

Electrical equipment in substations are interconnected by electrical links, while the frost heaving and thawing set-tlement may introduce additional deformation on the equipment. In this investigation, a finite element model of a substation slope was found. The temperature distribution and soil deformation under seasonal changes were obtained, and the effect of the frozen and unfrozen soil were included. The calculation results show that the seasonal changes in air temperature and solar radiation only affect the surface temperature field, while the GIL experiences sig-nificant deformation on frozen soil sites. Therefore, it is recommended to use a pile foundation for the GIL on plateau areas.
