An Architecture for Configuring HTML Applications That Run on Consumer Electronics Products

The consumer electronics area is characterized by devices that operate on domestic premises. Among them, we can find digital TV (DTV) receivers, which currently present the ability to execute hypertext markup language (HTML) content through HTML version 5 (HTML5) engines. Indeed, such a resource may also be used to extend their capacities by sending new features encoded in an HTML (web) application, without software updates or changes. However, such a software enhancement must still be encoded, which is often done manually or partially automated with fixed and restricted templates. This work addresses this issue and proposes a methodology for dynamic HTML content creation based on three elements: Basic HTML container, JavaScript engine, and Orchestrator. To validate our proposal, we have used it to enhance an existing template-based feature that creates photo albums for presentation on DTV receivers, thus providing a free editing mode. As a result, presentations became richer and more flexible, created with an application that presents a lower memory footprint promptly and readily shows what you get.
