Thermal Management for In-Vehicle Emergency Call Systems

Given the life-saving significance of an automatic emergency call system for vehicles, it is imperative that it operates reliably under extreme environmental conditions such as high external temperatures. However, traditional thermal mitigation strategies from a System on Chip (SoC) perspective, where external cooling methods are not available, have primarily focused on reducing dynamic power by limiting the CPU clock frequency and this approach is insufficient for extremely high temperature situations. To address this issue, this paper examines the effects of managing static power in addition to dynamic power. It also expands the scope of power management from a SoC perspective to a product perspective, proposing an integrated thermal management solution. This solution has the potential for widespread application across various embedded systems where external cooling methods are not available.
