An Evaluation of Lean Six Sigma Readiness in IT Department of Higher Education Institution

Lean Six Sigma has many advantages, such as reducing waste and maximizing the value of the process and product outcome or result. This will impact organizational efficiency and reduce operational costs. The benefit of LSS has also been felt by service-oriented organizations such as IT Service companies, healthcare, and education domains. To adopt the LSS methodology, some processes need to be applied, such as readiness assessment. This study aims to evaluate the readiness of the IT Department of an Indonesian Higher Education Institution. The number of application bugs and complaints led the unit to embrace a method that could reduce the problem. The readiness decision is determined by utilizing the readiness factors of LSS adoption in Higher Education institutions, such as leader, management involvement, strategy integration, customer focus, and talent acquisition. The weight of factors is also deployed by using the Analytical Hierarchy Approach. The factors rating method also involved understanding the prioritization variables that must be addressed and making a strategic plan. The research shows that this unit is ready for Lean Six Sigma implementation. Leadership vision and Management commitment are the biggest priority factors among all readiness factors.
