Prediction of the Adoption Rate of Renewable Energy in South Western Nigeria

The insufficient supply of electricity in Southwestern Nigeria relative to its energy demand has driven attention and interest in the exploration of several means of energy generation. The huge gap between the demand and supply from the national grid has made individuals and organizations to seek for other alternatives through which they will achieve regular supply of energy which can only be efficiently obtained through the utilization of renewable energy as the region being considered in this work possess in abundance some natural resources which can be harnessed and utilized for generation of electrical energy. The objective of this study is to collect data on the adoption rate of renewable energy by administering questionnaire to residents of the six states in the south-west region of Nigeria, analyze the data from the questionnaires to determine the factors influencing the adoption of renewable energy, determine the most used energy and make prediction of the adoption rate of the most used energy for the next five years in Southwestern Nigeria using a computer software known as Python. In other to achieve the objectives of this study, a quantitative and qualitative approach will be used to carry out the study which is the development of questionnaire on a google form. The responses from the questionnaire will be analyzed and data will be imported into excel which will then be used to simulate and predict the adoption rate of renewable energy in Southwest Nigeria for the next five years using python programming language. The result from this study will help to identify the different factors influencing the adoption rate of renewable energy from the resident’s perspective and will help provide recommendations on how to improve the adoption rate in the region of interest.
