Development of Comprehensive Central Water Supply Scheme for Gateway International Airport, Ogun State, Nigeria

Access to clean and potable water is necessary for various purposes, including cooking, drinking, washing, sanitation, and other domestic uses. Governments, building designers, and developers must ensure clean and potable water in all new constructions. Adequate access to water is essential for public well-being, and the quality and quantity of the supplied water must align with demand. The Gateway International Airport in Ogun State, Nigeria is new but has officially commenced unscheduled operations. This paper delivers a definitive analysis of water demand estimates and outlines the design of a Central Water Supply System for the new airport. The research employed a comprehensive approach to determine the water needs of different airport facilities, evaluate how passenger traffic affects water usage, and detail the Airport's Water Treatment Plant (WTP) design factors. This research estimates a daily water requirement of about 125 cubic metres, considering traveler needs, facility operations, and fire safety. The proposed plan includes using existing boreholes and implementing a water treatment system to ensure compliance with health standards for user safety.
