Exploring Initiatives for Sustainable Cities in Tunisia: Carbon Balance and Ecological Transition

The transition to sustainable smart cities is a major challenge for greenhouse gas (GHG) emission management and carbon footprint reduction in a context of accelerated urban growth. This paper provides an in-depth analysis of innovative strategies and governance mechanisms for adapting and integrating carbon management in smart cities in Tunisia. It focuses on Tunis, Sfax and Kairouan. This article examines the integration of carbon balance into smart city strategies, based on an in-depth analysis of environmental performance indicators and the application of the MICMAC tool. By identifying key environmental, economic and social performance indicators, this article aims to develop a strategic roadmap for optimizing the carbon footprint of these cities. It also examines the impact of local and national public policies on urban sustainability.
