Faults Protection of DC Microgrids with Supercapacitor-Based Storage System

Faults in the AC grid can adversely affect DC microgrids due to their interconnection, potentially disrupting voltage stability and causing overloads or voltage surges that could damage sensitive equipment. Furthermore, conventional measurement tools and protection devices may not effectively detect faults within the DC microgrid. Addressing these challenges is crucial for maintaining system reliability. This paper investigates the impact of AC grid faults on DC microgrids and presents a supervisory strategy to ensure service continuity using a supercapacitor-based energy storage system. The proposed strategy aims to mitigate voltage fluctuations on the DC bus while maintaining grid connection.
