Pulp Friction – Refiner Motor Considerations

The manufacture of paper products from raw materials involves two basic operations: 1) conversion of wood products (logs, chips, etc.) into minute fibers (cellulose pulp) and 2) conversion of pulp into paper products via special papermaking machines.There are several chemical and mechanical methods used for producing pulp. The three most common mechanical processes are stone ground wood (SGW), refiner mechanical pulp (RMP), and 3) thermo-mechanical pulp (TMP).The most modern of these processes is TMP; this paper will describe both the process and the rotating machinery related to it.
