Enhancing TVET Education in Malaysia Via HETVET @UiTM Framework

The enhancement of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Malaysia through the Higher Education TVET (HETVET) @ UiTM framework plays a critical role in developing a highly skilled workforce to meet the demands of a modern, dynamic economy. The HETVET initiative bridges the gap between vocational training and higher education by incorporating advanced technical competencies, critical thinking, and professional development into TVET programs. This framework emphasizes improving the quality and relevance of TVET through industry-driven curricula, fostering partnerships between educational institutions and industries, and promoting lifelong learning opportunities. By adopting innovative teaching approaches, utilizing state-of-the-art facilities, and leveraging strategic collaborations, HETVET aims to elevate the perception of TVET, making it a more attractive and viable pathway for both students and employers. The framework's integration of four key models-Academic-based, Professional-based, Standard Skill-based, and Industry Mode-into the six essential elements of TVET ensures alignment with Occupational and Industrial Standards and Practices (OISP), practical training components, psychomotor skills development, industrial training and collaborations with industry-specific project alignment. As to date, curriculum reviews have been conducted on 208 of 246 undergraduate programs, resulting in 84.55% of academic programs being categorized under the HETVET model. The study concludes that a well-structured HETVET framework, aligned with industry standards and demands, significantly enhances the employability, adaptability, and career progression of TVET graduates, ultimately contributing to Malaysia's economic growth and social development.
