Design and Development of Dual Transmit Receive Module (DTRM) with Variable Phase and Gain for Beam Forming Applications

In this paper, The Design architecture of Integrated Dual Transmit Receive Module is presented. The Module is designed for active phased array radar for air surveillance. The radar is proposed to be mounted on ship surface. Module consists of RF front end Transmitter and Receiver. The configuration is based on hybrid MIC/MMIC architecture. The transmitter chain is realized using GaN (Gallium Nitride) devices. The T/R module has bandwidth of 400MHz. To control phase and Amplitude digital phase shifter and digital attenuator is used respectively. The receiver noise figure is 3.5 dB (max) and gain is 30 dB (±2dB). The transmitter power is 50dB (min) over the frequency range with better than 40% efficiency. FPGA based control card provides sequencing control for GaN devices and T/R switching signals depending upon the PRT. Electrical performance of TR module is tested and measurement results are in accordance with design specifications.
