Investigation into Different Materials for Designing a Radome Wall for Airborne Applications

Radomes, are the protective enclosures serving as cover or shell for airborne radar antennas, to achieve structural integrity, environmental protection, and electromagnetic transparency. This paper investigates various materials suitable for designing radome walls in airborne applications and emphasizes the importance of selecting appropriate materials for radome wall design. We analyse the key properties of conventional materials, followed by exploring advanced options like composites and metamaterials. We discuss material selection based on factors like mechanical strength, electromagnetic performance, and cost. Finally, we highlight promising future directions for radome material development.
