Design of Ridge Waveguide Based 16-Way Wideband Radial Power Combiner/Divider

This paper presents design, simulation and implementation of a 16-way low loss wide band ridge waveguide based radial power combiner. The radial combiner comprised of three section transformer and coaxial to ridge waveguide transition. A three-section transformer is designed to match $\mathbf{8 0 0 0 h m}$ to 50 Ohm impedances. The designed transformer is radially arranged to build a 16-way power combiner/divider. The combiner uses a coaxial port with stepped impedance matching as a common port. Full wave 3D EM model is simulated using ANSYS HFSS. Measured results are in good agreement with experimental results. The designed radial combiner offers very low insertion loss of 0.3 dB and return loss better than 15 dB over 3.5 GHz to 6.5 GHz. The amplitude and phase imbalance of the combiner are within 0.35 dB and 2.5 deg respectively. The proposed design is suitable for high power wireless radio communication.
