Distribution Network Terminal Modeling Based on IEC 61850/IEC CIM and Communication Design Scheme Using Industrial IoT Protocols

The distribution network (DN) plays a pivotal role in constructing new power systems. With the rapid growth of distributed energy resources, the DN faces numerous challenges, including uncertain equipment access capacity, insufficient regulation, limited sensing capabilities, and operational safety risks. Currently, IoT terminals in medium-voltage DNs have significant shortcomings in modeling systems, device self-description, and information exchange capabilities, making it difficult to meet the demands of widespread access and the rapid development of emerging business models. Therefore, enhancing the monitoring, operation, maintenance, and communication capabilities of IoT terminals is key to advancing smart distribution systems. This study, based on IEC 61850 and IEC CIM standards, thoroughly investigates the information model, communication protocol mapping, and configuration methods for DN, considering the impact of distributed energy integration. It proposes an adaptive, low-latency, and highly reliable communication solution, providing technical support and solutions for the intelligent upgrade of DN.
