Performance Analysis of Different Resource Allocation Schemes used for Carrier Aggregation

This paper examines Carrier Aggregation (CA) techniques in mobile networks, crucial for achieving high data rates despite spectrum fragmentation. The study delves into the evolution of mobile networks from 1G to 5G, highlighting the significance of each generation in reshaping mobile communications. Carrier Aggregation introduced in LTE-Advanced and continued in 5G, enables the aggregation of multiple component carriers (CCs) to attain higher data rates. The paper discusses various CC and Resource Block (RB) allocation schemes, categorizing them based on their allocation strategies, such as Round Robin, Random, and Hashing algorithms. Additionally, it explores joint CC and RB allocation methods, demonstrating their superiority over disjoint schemes in enhancing user throughput and fairness. The research presents comparative analyses and evaluations of these schemes, outlining their impact on system performance metrics like throughput, coverage, packet loss rate, fairness index, and UE power consumption. Finally, the paper concludes that joint allocation schemes exhibit superior performance compared to individual allocation strategies, with certain algorithms standing out for their efficiency in optimizing user throughput and power consumption for low latency applications.
