A Literature Survey on Floating Point Coprocessor with Extended Instruction Set

Mathematical operations like square root, minimum, maximum, and comparison are included in the RISC-V Single Precision Floating-Point (RISC-V SP-FP) instruction set. With single-precision floating-point values, the square root instruction determines an operand's square root. It is possible to compare two operands and determine which is greater or lesser by using the maximum and minimum instructions. Comparative instruction, on the other hand, compares two operands and produces a binary output that is either equal to, greater or lesser than the other operand. Applications ranging from scientific simulations to graphics processing can benefit from these instructions' efficient and accurate numerical computations. Capitalizing on the simplicity and adaptability of the RISC-V architecture, the SP-FP instructions enhance the overall efficiency and adaptability of computing systems that follow the RISC-V specifications.
