PKCS#11 Driver for Remote Qualified Electronic Signatures

The field of digital signatures is in a continuously evolving and worldwide adoption, contributing significantly to the automation of digital workflows. This current trend towards digital signatures and transactions underscores the crucial role of reliable and robust Qualified Electronic Signatures(QES) solutions. Remote QES emerged as the predominant choice among end users thanks to overcoming the physical barrier through which a user had physically own a cryptographic token to be able to sign.In light of all the foregoing, in this paper, we propose a cross-platform PKCS#11 driver that offers a standard-based REST API for seamless integration with Remote QES providers. The solution addresses the barrier of requiring a physical cryptographic device. Our proposed driver lays the groundwork for a wide range of applications and services needing QES integration, while also ensuring the interoperability with the local applications currently used by end users.
