Robust Design Considering Assembly Imperfection of 20 W Chip Mounter Motor

The chip mounter motor is a motor used to place electronic components on a PCB, and servo motors are used as chip mounters for precise control. To achieve precise control of the servo motor, torque ripple must be reduced, with cogging torque and back-Electromotive force (EMF) Total harmonic distortion (THD) being the primary causes of torque ripple. These characteristics can lead to performance degradation when assembly tolerances occur due to the application of segmented stator cores in the motor. In this paper, a robust design was performed using the Taguchi method to maintain the performance of cogging torque and back-EMF THD, which cause torque ripple, even when assembly tolerances occur. As a result, the optimal motor shape was derived, and although energy efficiency slightly decreased, robust results were achieved that maintained superior performance compared to the base model when assembly tolerances occurred.
