The Experimental Study on Optical Transfer Function Through MATLAB Software Simulation

The optical transfer function is an important technical indicator for evaluating the performance of optical or optoelectronic systems. Its high or low directly affects the cost and imaging quality of the optical system development process. It can reflect various factors that affect imaging quality, such as diffraction, aberration, and stray light, and objectively evaluate the image quality of optical systems. It is internationally recognized as the core evaluation index for the imaging performance of optical systems in actual testing processes. The optical transfer function (OTF) can transfer spectra of different frequencies. In the process of transmission, the frequency will not change, but the amplitude will decrease and the phase will shift. Therefore, the OTF is widely used in the evaluation of system imaging quality. An optical system is composed of various optical elements such as lenses, mirrors, prisms, and apertures, which are combined in a certain order. It is usually used for imaging or optical information processing. After passing through an ideal optical system, the imaging should also be ideal and still focused on one point. However, in reality, there is always a difference between the actual image formed by the optical system and the ideal image. No optical system can achieve perfect imaging, so it is necessary to evaluate the quality of the optical system's imaging. The optical transfer function is currently recognized as the most comprehensive evaluation index that can fully reflect the actual imaging quality of the system. It can comprehensively reflect the comprehensive effects caused by aberrations in the optical system, objectively and quantitatively evaluate the imaging quality of the optical system, and can be directly calculated based on the structural parameters of the optical system. This means that through optical simulation design software, the imaging quality can be accurately predicted during the design phase of the optical system, without the need for pre made samples, which can greatly improve the quality of urban and rural areas and reduce costs. In this paper, the intensity distribution, the coherent transfer function, the optical transfer function and the cut-off frequency of the image are obtained by using the back of the “5-yuan'he'coin” as the object of MATLAB simulation. Finally, the experimental results are consistent with the theoretical analysis, which proves the accuracy of the MATLAB simulation measurement method. At the same time, the relevant theoretical analysis also provides an important theoretical basis for optimizing the system parameters and improving the correlation calculation of OTF. The experimental study of OTF has great potential applications in military and aerospace fields.
