A New Index for Computer Science Conferences and Its Applications: The S-Index

Given the dynamic nature of computer science (CS), ranking effectively conferences is crucial for researchers, as it helps them determine the best venues to submit their papers. In this paper, we introduce the S-Index, a novel metric designed to evaluate computer science conferences. Additionally, we present the S-i-Index and its visual representation, the S-i-Index diagram, which offer further insights into conference assessment. To facilitate clustering and analyze the relationships between various conferences, we have also developed the S-Index graph. This graph aids in understanding the connections and similarities among conferences.Moreover, the S-Index can identify key researchers associated with each conference, whom we propose as the "important people" of that conference. These individuals are instrumental in shaping the conference’s reputation and impact.Our study presents insights, observations, and analytical perspectives on the classification and ranking of conferences using the S-Index, S-i-Index diagram, and S-Index graph. These tools provide essential information that guides researchers in making informed decisions about conference submissions, specifically for non-experts in a specific field.
