Engineering Analysis on Frequent Trip of SVG in Yunnan New Energy Power Plants

With the implementation of the "14th Five-Year Plan", the installed capacity of Yunnan's new energy will further increase, as a result, the trip-out rate of reactive power compensation devices represented by static var generators (SVG) will have an increasingly significant impact on the safe operation of the power grid. Combined with engineering practice and fault investigation, this paper summarizes common problems of SVG frequent trip in Yunnan new energy power plants. Firstly, the fatigue failure mechanism of power module structure is discussed, and then the influence of operation environment in high altitude mountain area on heat dissipation system and module aging is analyzed. At the same time, the reasons for frequent trip are analyzed from the perspectives of the conflict between manufacturer's device protection design concept and power grid's stable operation requirements, and the technology and management defects of the station device. Finally, taking the current effective engineering practice methods as examples, the countermeasures and improvement methods to ensure the safe and stable operation of SVG and to reduce the trip rate are proposed from the aspects of technical management, protection design, operation and maintenance, and grid-connected detection.
