Multi-assessment tool for electric distribution systems

The electrical distribution grid is essential for societal infrastructure. Any disruption to the system can have significant social, economic, and political consequences. Ensuring its resilience by anticipating potential issues is critical. This study introduces a multi-assessment tool designed to analyze and enhance the resilience of the distribution grid by performing comprehensive risk assessments. The tool collects and stores data from various sources, utilizing a range of algorithms from simple calculations to advanced artificial intelligence. It integrates geographic data for visualization through GeoServer and MapStore, enabling users to add maps and layers relevant to the electrical configuration and to generate tables and graphs for monitoring. The tool incorporates meteorological data to assess impacts on the grid, setting thresholds to identify vulnerable areas. An algorithm locates electrical faults and suggests grid reconfigurations to minimize consumer impact, employing machine learning for rapid fault detection. Additionally, it calculates dynamic thermal rating (DTR) and distance between the towers and the lowest point of a conductor (sag) for aerial lines to ensure safe operation. This georeferenced web service, built on open-source platforms, integrates various aspects of the electrical system, enhancing its resilience and vulnerability assessment. The tool's ability to connect with third-party sources underscores its flexibility and effectiveness in real-world applications.
