Comparison of black and white box model of VSC by DQ-frame admittance modeling method

This paper describes the implementation method of voltage source converter (VSC) admittance modeling in the dq frame, divided into white-box and black-box models, and compares the results of the two models to validate the black-box model. For the VSC admittance modeling of the white-box model, the small-signal modeling technique is applied to reflect the dynamic characteristics of the phase-locked loop. The harmonic injection method and vector fitting method were applied to model the VSC admittance of the black-box model using PSCAD/EMTDC simulation. The results of this study confirm that the black-box model can reproduce the dynamic characteristics of the VSC, with results that are quite similar to those of the white-box model. This study will serve as an important foundation for future VSC modeling research.
