IoT-Driven Aid Deployment Unmanned Surface Vehicle Harnessing YOLOv6-N and LoRa For Lifeguard and Border Patrol Assistance

This paper presents the development of an unmanned surface vehicle (USV) prototype designed to modernise search and rescue operations and significantly enhance maritime border surveillance. Offering an economical and distinctive alternative to current USVs in the market by integrating three primary functions: smart aid deployment, surveillance, and long-range communication by enabling swift and effective aid delivery. The prototype, which is equipped with a Raspberry Pi 4B, a Pi camera, and the YOLOv6-N object detection algorithm to identify individuals in distress, is integrated with a manipulator and Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities for real-time tracking via the Blynk application for aid deployment. Surveillance is supported by a V380 Pro camera, while LoRa RA-02 SX1278 technology ensures reliable long-range communication. The USV's distinctive lifebuoy-inspired, pentagon-shaped design enhances both stability and manoeuvrability due to its differential thrust system. Weighing just 15 kg, the USV can support drowning victims and transport essential aid kits. Which makes it ideal for military operations and lifeguard rescue missions, aiming to reduce response time and fatalities.
