Topology Synthesis and Implementation of Efficient SIDO SEPIC Converter

In modern power electronic applications, there are scenarios where dual loads need to be supplied from a single power source. Traditionally, to meet this requirement, designers implement separate power conversion circuits for each load, often using multiple identical circuits connected to a single DC input. The need for multiple circuits increases the complexity of the overall design, adds more components, and elevates the cost of the system. Moreover, the redundancy of using identical circuits for each load introduces inefficiencies, both in terms of space and energy utilization. To overcome these challenges, Single Input Dual Output (SIDO) SEPIC (Single-Ended Primary Inductor Converter) converters have been proposed as a more efficient alternative, which supplies dual outputs from a single input source. The SEPIC converter can generate two different output voltages, which can either step up (boost) or step down (buck) the input voltage as required by the loads. In the proposed SIDO SEPIC converter, a 19V input from solar PV panels is used to generate two outputs: 18V and 24V. These outputs are suitable for various applications in electric vehicles, such as powering auxiliary systems and managing battery operations. To enhance the performance of the converter, a Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller is employed which plays a critical role in regulating the output voltage, ensuring stability, and providing quick responses to changing load conditions. By continuously adjusting the system based on feedback, the PID controller helps maintain the desired voltage levels at both outputs, improving the overall efficiency and reliability of the power supply. This control mechanism is particularly important in electric vehicle applications, where stable and precise power delivery is essential for optimal performance. The combination of the SIDO SEPIC converter and PID controller offers a highly efficient and reliable solution for powering dual loads in electric vehicles.
