Recent Trends in Low Light Object Detection in Indoor Spaces for Assisting the Visually Impaired

Tasks involving daily activities are likely to be challenging for Visually Impaired People (VIP). Researching and assessing systems created for the VIP community has been greatly aided by wearable technology. Over the past ten years, a great deal of efforts has gone into creating wearable assistive technology specifically for the VI community. These gadgets are intended to enhance the VI's quality of life by improving their cognitive abilities when navigating in both familiar and unfamiliar indoor and outdoor settings. This paper presents an detailed overview of wearable and assistive technology, along with a critical analysis of each system, highlighting its advantages and disadvantages. The purpose of the study is to educate the VI community and the research community on the capabilities of current systems, the advancements in assistive technologies, and a preview of potential short-and medium-term research directions that could enhance current devices. The blind community helped create the survey's many features and performance metrics, which enable systems classification using both qualitative and quantitative evaluation metrics. This enables the systems under analysis to be ranked according to how they might affect the lives of the VI people.
