Research and application of the seal verification method for the shut-in layer in separately zoned waterflooding wells

In the middle and late stages of oil field development, stratified water injection is key to achieving sustained and high production. Therefore, it places higher demands on the sealing quality of downhole packers in water injection wells. The layered water injection technique in water injection wells involves a method where a packer is deployed into the wells to isolate oil layers with significant variances. Subsequently, a water distributor allocates water across these layers, enabling each type of oil layer to function effectively. The seal integrity of the packer directly impacts the quality of layered water injection. Based on the principle of seal verification, this paper discusses the reason the initial seal checks failed to detect the malfunction of the dual-stage packers above and below the blocked layer in certain wells. The discussion analyzes the seal verification results for the packers above and below the shut-off layer and offers a solution.
