Soft-Switched High-Gain Quasi-Z-Source DC-DC Converter with Single Magnetic Core for DC Microgrid Applications

This research introduces a high-gain DC-DC configuration incorporating a magnetic core and a quasi-Z-source design tailored for DC microgrid applications. The proposed topology leverages a coupled inductor (CI) integrated with a quasi-Z-source network to achieve substantial voltage amplification. Two essential parameters provide versatile control over the voltage gain: the duty cycle of the switch and the turn ratio of the dual-winding CI. This configuration offers several notable benefits, composed on ultra-high voltage gain, reduced voltage stress on switching components, a shared ground connection linking the input and output, and synchronized switch operation. A comparative analysis underscores the superiority of this converter over similar configurations. The design’s effectiveness is further verified using a 200 W prototype operating at a 45 kHz switching frequency, achieving a 340 V output from a 20 V input.
