Enhanced Security Approaches for Online Social Networks Using Honeywords to Counter Cyber Threats

Some of the many uses for online social networking sites include promoting products and services, interacting with friends and family, and sharing information. Password theft, insider assaults, harmful bots, and deceptive marketing are some of the big security concerns they are up against. When a hacker get access to a database and steals passwords, they have committed password theft. When a criminal intentionally targets a person in order to compromise their vulnerability, this is known as identity theft or an insider attack. Launching phony websites with the intent to defraud customers of their money or personal information is known as fraudulent marketing. This study develops three security methods—Honeyword as a Trapp, Social Network Malicious I insider Detection (SID), and Social Network Fraudulent Marketing Detection (SFD)—to counteract these dangers. Decoy passwords called honeywords are used to safeguard password databases, whereas real passwords used by users are called sugar words. Honeyword As a Trap (HAaT) is an innovative approach that has been suggested to enhance OSN password security. By boosting the difficulty of password guessing attempts, HAaT is an upgraded honeyword generating technique that employs a salt-chlorine technique for hashing. By using user data to create "honeywords," the proposed HAaT lays the trap for attackers who misuse password guessing. To further reduce server shutdowns caused by denial-of-service assaults, it uses a modified alert policy. When compared to current honeyword generation methods, the experimental results show that the suggested HAaT which incorporates RHG and SCG approaches is far more resilient.
