Research and Implementation of the Airport Stop Bar Control System

Since 2013, the International Civil Aviation Organization has recommended the use of stop bars at operational or newly-built airports to reduce the probability of runway incursions during airport operations. With the implementation and deployment of domestic industry standards, regulations, and related application cases, the importance and significance of the stop bar system in airport surface operations have been verified, laying a solid foundation for its comprehensive promotion. Starting from the installation methods, working principles, and control logic of stop bars, this article studies the composition and implementation methods of the system. By combining radar-vision fusion technology for accurate monitoring of airport runway entrances, and utilizing 5G wireless communication technology to achieve accurate and reliable monitoring of the status of stop bars and remote control of their lighting and extinguishing, it provides additional warnings to pilots and vehicle drivers, enhances ground situation awareness, effectively prevents runway incursion incidents, and simultaneously improves airport operational capabilities. This article also provides technical references for the design of runway incursion warning systems.
